People Helping People… #GivingTuesdayNow 2020

GivingTuesday announces a day of global action for giving and unity in response to COVID-19. #GivingTuesdayNow brings together individuals, nonprofits, communities, small businesses, brands, and more.
GivingTuesday, the groundbreaking global generosity movement, announced a global day of giving and unity, #GivingTuesdayNow. Set to take place on May 5, 2020, as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.
This event provides a unifying moment for giving back on May 5, 2020, GivingTuesday, the groundbreaking global generosity movement.
Confirmed additional partners include original #GivingTuesday co-founder the United Nations Foundation powering the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization, the CDC Foundation, Facebook, LinkedIn, Guardian News and Media, the Aga Khan Foundation, United Way Worldwide, Candid, The Communications Network, Global Impact, Philanthropy Together, Teach for All, Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support (WINGS), with NBC News and MSNBC returning as GivingTuesday’s signature media partner.

Click this #GivingTuesdayNow button to help us reach our goal by donating!

Or if you prefer to use Paypal, you can click here!
Your contribution will be matched on May 5, 2020, making the donation twice the support!
You do NOT have to wait until May 05 to have your donation doubled. All donations will be matched! All funds go directly to Crazy Critters Inc.
The match program is not all this organization is doing. GivingTuesday is also committing $200,000 to launch The Starling Fund, designed to support its existing network of official community and country leaders. Priority will go to leaders in the regions of greatest crisis or lowest resource in order to strengthen their #GivingTuesdayNow initiatives.
The global day of action will rally people around the world to tap into the power of human connection and strengthen communities at the grassroots level.
Communities are encouraged to take action on behalf of first responders, as well as the world’s other – often forgotten – frontline workers: the nonprofits and community organizations that feed, house, educate, and nurture neighbors impacted by the global pandemic. The social sector is in crisis at the very moment the world needs it most, and GivingTuesday stands ready to rally the world at this critical time.
On the last GivingTuesday, December 3, 2019, the global giving day generated $2 billion in giving, just in the United States, and inspired millions of people worldwide to volunteer, perform countless acts of kindness, and donate their voices, time, money, and goods. The additional giving day planned for May 5, 2020, is being deployed in response to needs expressed by communities and leaders around the world.
Rob Reich
“For eight years, GivingTuesday has celebrated grassroots generosity, and has built a movement that empowers millions of people to give, engage their communities, and find common ground,” said Rob Reich, Faculty Co-Director, Stanford University Center for Philanthropy and Civil Society and chairman of the board for GivingTuesday. “We are all confronting the same challenge right now, we need the giving spirit more than ever.
People can show their generosity in a variety of ways during #GivingTuesdayNow–whether it’s helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill, or giving to causes, every act of generosity counts. The giving day will emphasize opportunities to give back to communities and causes in ways that comply with public health guidelines. Planned initiatives include:
Dozens of countries will mobilize national networks to activate locally and promote generosity in their country.
  • Hundreds of communities across the United States led by volunteer leaders and by organizations like community foundations, United Ways, and giving groups will both raise funds and provide safe opportunities for supporting neighbors in need with other forms of civic participation and generosity.
  • Corporate and foundation partners from around the world will activate employees, and provide technical resources and matching funds in support of efforts on the ground around the world.
  • Giving platform partners are delivering solutions in response to the crisis already, and will be coordinating those efforts for #GivingTuesdayNow; and, they have committed to sharing data and collaborating on research into giving patterns, interest, and impact.
  • GivingTuesday Kids will offer opportunities for youth to organize internationally and give back while many young people are distanced from their schools and classmates.
  • GivingTuesday Military will activate their network of military service members, families, and veterans around the world to engage with their communities to give back in a show of unity.
  • The GivingTuesday Data Commons will continue to collaborate with online giving platforms around the world, and conduct primary research to provide in-depth analyses on giving trends and donor behavior in times of crisis and offer recommendations in support of sector resilience and emerging best practices from this influx of generous behavior.
“As a global community, we can mourn this moment of extreme crisis while also finding the opportunity to support one another. We each have the power to make an impact with acts of generosity, no matter how small, and to ensure the sustainability of organizations and services that are crucial to the care and support of our communities,” said Asha Curran, CEO of GivingTuesday.

Want to know what you are supporting? Here is one of the greenhouses. You can find more on our Youtube channel.

Curran adds, “#GivingTuesdayNow is a chance for us to stand united and use grassroots generosity to show that we are all in this together, beginning to end. Even as many face financial uncertainties, generosity is not about size. Every act of kindness is not only a beacon of hope, but it’s also a critical act of civic and social solidarity.”
Created in 2012 at New York’s 92nd Street Y and incubated in its Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact as a day to do good, GivingTuesday has grown into a year-round global generosity movement with leaders who have launched more than 200 community campaigns across the U.S. and national movements in more than 60 countries. At the grassroots level, people and organizations participate in GivingTuesday in every single country in the world.

Adromischus cristatus aka Key Lime Pie, Pillow Feet, and Crinkle Leaf Plant Care and Information

Adromischus cristatus(ad-roh-MIS-kus  kris-TAY-tus),  aka “Key Lime Pie”, “Pillow Feet”, and “Crinkle Leaf Plant” is native to lower Baviaanskloof and Langkloof west of Humansdorp, Eastern Cape, South Africa. The plant has approcametley 28 species known.

Click To Purchase
The botanical name is from the Latin cristatus meaning “crested”,  This succulent was described by Antoine Charles Lemaire in Jardin Fleuriste in 1852.
Because of its African roots, Adromischus tolerate cool conditions during the winter if kept dry. While hardy down to freezing temperatures (32 °F or 0 °C), Be sure to avoid exposure to frost.
Water mostly in spring/autumn and let them dry out between waterings.

The Crinkle Leaf plant is a small slow growing succulent with up to 2 inches (5 cm) long, branching stems and triangular pale green leaves covered in tiny hairs.
During the springtime, it sends up long narrow stalks for its flowers, which are tubular in shape and white in color with hints of red.

Try to keep water off the foliage during the winter!…

Propagation Of The Crinkle Leaf

Leaf Cuttings
Many species can be propagated from a single leaf. Some species drop their leaves easily and although each leaf will form a new plant it can be a slow-growing challenge to grow a mature specimen.
Hold a lower leaf and wiggle it gently until it comes loose from the parent plant. Be sure the leaf is intact and doesn’t tear.

Click To Purchase
In other cases, leaves for propagation must be carefully detached with a sharp knife.
Set the leaf aside for a few days until the end dries out and forms a callus. Without a callus, the leaf absorbs too much moisture and is likely to rot and die.
Lay the callused leaf on top of a walking stone layered with dry cactus potting soil.
Place the stone in bright, indirect light. Avoid intense sunlight and moisture.
Propagation By Seeds
There is no pre-treatment of the seeds required.
The seeds are sown in perlite in plastic-pots. Larger seeds need to be covered with the mineral soil, small seeds should remain on the surface.

Click To Purchase
Then put the plastic pot in a ziplock bag. Add tap water with a few drops of universal fertilizer, so that after the absorption of the substrate a small amount of water remains on the bottom.
Then close the ziplock bag. You have created a greenhouse effect.
Watering is not required because no moisture evaporates through the ziplock bag.
Put the ziplock bag on the windowsill or in a small greenhouse in partial shade, daytime temperatures at about 73-83 F. You want slightly lower at night to be 68-72 F. The resulting micro-climate provides ideal conditions for germination.
Root Formed Offspring…
Many members of the Crassulaceae family grow prominent aerial roots along branch stems. If the branch bends over sufficiently to contact the soil, the branch roots into the ground at the point of contact.
All you need to do is to cut the connection with the mother plant, dig the new plantlet up and give it a pot of its own.

These succulents are ideal for use in your home or office. A succulent garden will add life to desks, tables, centerpieces, and window sills without needing intensive maintenance.
Adromischus cristatus prefers cool high-light areas to grow.
This can be achieved by placing your plants near Eastern and Southern facing windows if possible. Or take them outdoors on occasion.

Animals eating. PART II... Fluffy the Argus Monitor and other Tortoises

Yesterday we fed Gora the Tegu some eggs mixed with fish and Mazuri diet. We tried to feed Wrath the Savannah but he did not want to eat. But that is okay because he just ate about a dozen full-grown discoid bugs which are better for his diet. We stop in to say hi to Jo-Jo the Crow and the iguanas before ending up in the Orange Area to feed the rest of our mixture to them. Many people would be shocked to learn that tortoises eat eggs another mind fish. Animals eating fish eggs and Mazuri. PART I... Gora the Tegu

We fed a mixture of fish, eggs, and Mazuri to some of the animals and caught what we could on video. The first video is Gora the Tegu lizard. Did you know a bill passed that will ban the Tegu in Florida? We fought against it even though our mission is to rid the environment of invasive animals. However, if you outlaw the procession than how does one remove it from the environment without breaking the law? Added. if they are illegal to own how will one become passionate enough to save them if they do not spend time with them? The Tegu is a resilient hardy animal. They can make wonderful pets if you provide good husbandry,. Yet, even perfect caretaking will not calm an aggressive animal down much. There are some that are just bad. Gora was never bad, She just does not want to be handled. Over time she has grown to at least tolerate it. We also see the two new Macaws named Hunter and Rambo., They did not want to eat the eggs. You just have to keep watching this three-part series to see more of the birds, Fluffy, and other critters. Update and Care Treatment for Tank the Sulcata Tortoise After Injury

Tank The Sulcata Tortoise was injured during the winter after he had dug into some material getting it wrapped around his legs. We shared the entire story as it happened on our Facebook page... https://www.facebook.com/CrazyCritter... We have been treating him for an infection that was thought to have been gangrene.
