Not Diggin What We Came Home To

We went. We fought. We lost.
Yikes, who would have thought we would not have been able to get a full refund. But that is how it goes. We did give it our best try. Because we have so much work to do here at the facility and a thousand dollars could do so much good.
We did get a partial refund and the check is being fixed right now and mailed to us. This gives us just enough money to afford any legal fees that might incur as we pursue those who are responsible for this issue.
We say this because today's meeting confirmed the name of the person who made the false allegations that we were running an illegal business.
First of all, our attorney at Shipley Law Firm could have done a better job as pointed out by the county numerous times. An example is knowing that we did not require a CUP in the first place. They said since he issued a letter himself saying we wanted to have a CUP for the sanctuary, it is the counties right to assume that is what we wanted. Period.
Yes, Ken and I told our attorney we did not require a CUP because we had done our research on county ordinances well before opening up. But the caseworker Christine Rock convinced him otherwise.
Our attorney wrote a letter that said "my client does not require a CUP for his nursery but wants one for his exotics". OF COURSE, I did not uncover the five missing pages that were NOT in the counties rules and regulation handbook until after the letter was written. But before our meeting in February thank you, Lord!
But because our attorney did not word our withdrawal letter properly that they could not give us a full refund, it would open flood gates to EVERYONE wanting refunds the county manager says to us.
They had us at but your attorney wrote... we knew at that moment we did not have a leg to stand on.
So we will be happy with the progress we made today. But I sure feel neglected by our commissioner seeing we have reached out to her so many times.
Again, our grievances with the county are completely over. It was not their fault these people made false reports. We say we are hurt by our commissioners' lack of care. But we also know she is a busy woman and all.

We have been SUPER busy! Saving native wildlife and helping with invasives.

We are going after ANOTHER wild caught tortoise today. From the same location as the other four we have. The same size we are figuring. There is either a tortoise farm out there somewhere that no one knows about or a female got out and laid eggs. These tortoises can lay eggs for years after meeting a male.
There has NOT been ANY progress on Central America. It is just too hot sometimes to do that kind of work!
It has been SO HOT that all the tortoises are digging. Each and everyday Ken has to fill these holes in because if we do not, we take a huge risk in a tortoise escaping its enclosures. We noticed a huge amount of emails and messages regarding other peoples tortoises digging right now. To everyone's surprise, their beloved pet who has never once dug is digging very deep holes.

But what are the holes for? It is the egg season. SO your female may be making a nest. If she is using her read legs. If your animal is using his front legs, game on buddy! In this video, Speedy Parker "Stump" decides he wants to make a hole. I did not get out there until Ken was almost finished filling it in.

Stump is over one hundred pounds. He takes about an hour to dig a tunnel three times his size. It is like a piece of heavy machinery using hydraulics to kick soil from its home.

Every creature needs a place to live, even one who carries a shelter on his back. As a cold-blooded reptile, a tortoise uses his burrows to keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

A tortoise will build several burrows, facing different directions and in different locations so that he will always have at least one that can keep his body the right temperature. For example, north-facing burrows stay cooler, while south-facing burrows tend to stay warmer.

Crazy Critters Inc. was established to provide non-domestic, non-releasable animals with a safe and permanent home. The sanctuary has adopted animals including reptiles, birds, and assorted wildlife.

Once brought to the facility, these exotic animals are housed in naturalistic settings. Allowing propagation that is used for conservation.

Currently, this facility houses species of animals listed on CITES. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora is an international treaty to prevent species from becoming endangered or extinct because of international trade.

Adding, the Crazy Critters organization has produced offspring from species currently found on the IUCN's Red List. Established in 1964, the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species has evolved to become the world’s most comprehensive information source on the global conservation status of animal, fungi and plant species.

Crazy Critters Inc. is a self-funded organization that depends on the greenhouse nursery to pay for the cost of housing exotic animals. The facility grows and sells species of plants such as succulent and cactus to support the care of the animals. Many too are listed on the IUCN's Redlist.
