What The Neck? Sometimes animals are so odd! Snake-necked are reptiles with unusual adaptations. These amazing animals possess the longest neck of any group of turtles in the world. Snake-necked turtle is characterized by necks that can bend and move in a serpentine fashion. We actually purchased these two because some of the species in this group of turtles face being vulnerable in the wild due to the fact they are grossly taken for the pet trade. We want to create an insurance colony. It is important for both the public and private sector to work with endangered species. NOT taking them from the wild to do so. But instead, creating genetic diversity through captive propagation. We all have to work together. There is still a few years to go before we are able to incur the positive outcome to these programs that we are creating. If we give up, there will be nothing. If we stay strong, we have the future ahead of us. It is easy to be hopeful because we currently have six species of turtles in the incubator.
